The title of the exhibition, Unsung Silk has provided Iwata and Hickman the occasion to explore and experiment with new materials. Both artists wanted to temporarily step outside of what was familiar in their art making.

New, unfamiliar materials for Pat are golden silk cocoons, torn, raw edges of silk saris, and mawata silk squares. Says Pat, "This gallery space represents an opportunity to pause and play, raising questions about materials, celebrating unrecognized qualities of silk, going beyond the elegant, refined stereotypes of this remarkable fibrous material."
